I am interested in using entanglement to study the foundation and formation of localized laws of physics. I believe entanglement can cause lateral Newtonian force from electric charge.

Khurram, you are on the money, but I think you are being too kind. Lubos is the Jerry Fallwell (or Pat Robertson) of physics. Every field invariably has some (inevitable statistical phenomena). All I have seen from him are non sequiturs, name calling, and general bombast without substance. Why have we not seen a tightly argued counterpoint from him to "Not Even Wrong" about which he whines incessantly. Surely, his presence as faculty anywhere is no small academic scandal. I am so tired of ST and its proselytizers, that in my mind the physics in it belongs in paranormal studies or some such nonsense. The only person who can lead us out of this mess is Witten himself, but being human he seems to be trapped in it as well. Why not just call it "Pure Mathematics"? At least that would be honest. I left particle physics in the eighties (so I am a bit rusty) and switched to the biomedical area. Doing science these days is hard even without such distractions. Is Horgan at least partly correct in writing an obituary for science? Scary thought, but I think it is one more opportunity to philosophically reevaluate our thinking.

Angryphysicist,

Ok, no problem, I understand your point. But the main idea I believe you are presenting relentlessly is that some people misuse language, and Wittgenstein noticed that some people misuse language, and then wrote big volumes telling us how people misuse language. Am I correct?

According to Wikipedia, Wittgenstein lived in relatively innocent times when there was no television and internet was still in its infancy so, he basically wrote with quill pen and ink on parchment paper. Therefore, we process more information in a day than Wittgenstein did in a lifetime.

In other words, I don't need Wittgenstein to tell me that there is a group of people who misuse language. I know that politicians do. I know that lawyers too misuse language. If you argue with a lawyer the letter of the law he will argue the spirit of the law. If you argue the spirit of the law he will argue the letter. You cannot win. I know that medical doctors misuse language too. I know that theological doctors make a living misusing and abusing language. What do these misusers of language have in common? They are professional doctors. So circumstantial evidence suggests that professionals doctors misuse language. Physicists are professional doctors, and therefore... they will misuse language.

But we don't need the above reasoning to see that physicists are collosal misusers of languages, not philosophers as you claim. Unless, of course, if you mean that physicists are philosophers, to that I say amen. Physicists make their careers by corrupting language. In physics every symbol is context sensitive. This is what misusing language means. So a physicist will say that there is only one universe with one exception and that exception is that there are more than one universe. So if you tell the physicist there is one universe he will tell you there are many, if you say there are many, he will say there is only one universe. And he can prove both with legal mathematics. Hereditary authority to define is a powerful thing to have. Do we need the wit of Wittgenstein to realize that academic physics is scholastic polemics and physicists are polemical philosophers and corrupters of languages?

"How do you justify criticizing philosophers for arguing philosophically while you use the authority of the Old Wittgenstein as your authority? Doesn’t make sense."

Simple: I'm merely pointing out that Wittgenstein spent his life talking about where we can and cannot speak, and from there what is a proper argument and where philosophy simply misuses language. I don't really want to reiterate what Wittgenstein took a lifetime to do.

I could understand the confusion if you take the point of view "1. Wittgenstein is a philosopher, 2. I'm using Wittgenstein to argue against philosophers, thus there is a contradiction" but Wittgenstein was a philosopher who really did rail against philosophy. Is that "contradictory"? I think paradoxical would be a better choice of words.

Old Wittgenstein should be rolling in his grave at a frequency that could generate power for all of Western Europe from this argument alone.

Ah that would be the problem; going on a weekday, there will be practically no drunk college kids. They may still be angry however ;)

This was actually put on by some Christians rather than by a theatre. You see, some think because I'm a heathen I need to be "saved". As if Jesus could stop my reckless hedonistic ways! :-D

I accept that the Earth revolves around the Sun, I'm going to hell for this anyways; in for a penny, in for a pound...

"One of the cool things about being getting older is that relationships with women get a LOT easier."

You'd be surprised how easy it is when there are more women than men, especially when there are more cows than both!

It's merely that most of the people up here are counterculture type folks, and I usually where a suit and tie (it's stylishly simple)...this is something which more or less disgusts them.

And now it is time for my 9:00 AM class.

Glad to hear that you don't require avenging after all. We were getting ready to, really.

Funny, whenever I go to the movies I try to do it on Friday night in a college town so that I can hear angry young college boys make loud drunken comments about it. I don't see how anyone could object to it. And besides, you've paid for your ticket. Doesn't that mean that you can behave however you like?

When I was that age my elders told me "Eventually you will get old enough that your car insurance premiums will become affordable. About that time you will begin to understand these subtle things better", but I'm still clueless. On the other hand, I have stayed out of jail for better than 10 years. Who'd a thunk.
